Se non avete mai pensato a come poter aumentare la vostra velocità di lettura, troverete questi suggerimenti molto interessanti. È possibile leggere, probabilmente, a velocità molto più alte senza perdere la comprensione. Il vostro cervello è più veloce rispetto ai vostri occhi. Se siete ancora scettici circa l'aumento della vostra velocità di lettura, dovreste prendere in considerazione i seguenti suggerimenti.

Speed reading is not suitable for many types of written material. Text with complex mathematical concepts or equations, for example, needs to be read many times, slowly. Written material describing a complex historical scenario likewise may be too complicated to be understood quickly. However, when the reading speed is slow and the information is not interesting, the mind tends to wander.
 
Speed reading poetry will not improve one's appreciation of it, partly because in reading it too quickly, one loses much of the nuance of poetical metre. This is also true if you try to recite poetry at 700wpm. Speed reading tends to be a useful technique for light material such as easy-reading novels or magazine columns. The best idea is to speed read slowly. That is, use a perfect reading technique, but do it at a rate appropriate for the appreciation of what you are reading. Using a bad technique doesn't increase the appreciation of poetry, or the understanding of mathematical formulae. Speed reading the small print of speed reading course contracts (or any contract, for that matter) is also not a good idea.
 
La velocità di lettura delle poesie non migliorerà l'apprezzamento di esse, in parte perché con una lettura troppo rapida si perde gran parte di sfumatura della metrica poetica. Lo stesso accade anche se si tenta di recitare la poesia a 700ppm (parole per minuto).La lettura veloce tende ad essere una tecnica utile per materiale di facile lettura, ad esempio romanzi, riviste o giornali. La migliore idea, è quella di aumentare la velocità di lettura lentamente in modo da comprendere bene ciò che si legge. Ricordate di farlo a un tasso appropriato per l'apprezzamento di ciò che si sta leggendo. Leggendo troppo velocemente, dandosi solo obbiettivi di velocità, renderà il lavoro vano e si cadrà nell'errore di incomprensione ed il mal apprezzamento delle poesie, formule matematiche e tutto ciò' che necessiti apprendimento.

# Mai pronunciare le parole. La bocca deve essere assolutamente ferma.
# Never pronounce the words. Your mouth should be absolutely still.
# Non spostate la testa. Se si tenta di leggere ad una velocità mozzafiato, si ritorcerà sul collo. Usate i vostri occhi, ricordate sono piu veloci.
# Don't move your head. If you try to read at a breakneck speed, you will hurt your neck. Move your eyes instead.
# Pratica, non permettete che i vostri occhi rileggano le stesse parole. Questo è estremamente importante. Leggete il testo e noterete come i vostri occhi tenderanno a guardare in dietro e a rileggere alcune parole ripetutamente. All'inizio ci vorrà un sacco di tempo e concentrazione per leggere fluidamente un testo. Gli occhi leggeranno un pò di parole, poi altre ed altre ancora e cosi via. Tuttavia, non fatevi scoraggiare: riconoscere che alcuni testi semplicemente richiedere lettura, rileggete, e rileggete ancora per il necessario e vedrete che la comprensione si fisserà nella vostra testa. Se non avete capito qualcosa che avete appena letto, rileggetelo ancora (e ancora e ancora se necessario) prima di passare oltre. Testi ben scritti ripagano la vostra scrupolosa attenzione; ma (ovviamente) romanzi semplici o simili possono essere letti con la tecnica di lettura veloce senza alcuna problema. # Practice not looking back at words. This is extremely important. Read a text, and note how your eyes tend to look back and read the same words repeatedly. In the beginning it takes a lot of concentration to read with a steady flow. The eyes will read a chunk of words, then another, and so on. However, don't get hung up on this: recognize that some texts simply require reading, rereading, and rereading again before comprehension begins to settle in. If you didn't understand something that you have just read, read it again (and again and again if necessary) before moving on. Well-written text repays close attention; but (of course) trashy novels or suchlike may be read using speed reading techniques with no loss. Remember that the goal of speed reading (or indeed any type of reading) is comprehension, not speed.

When you actually read, your eyes are not moving. In order to read as quickly as possible, read as many words as possible in each glance. Reading research shows that it is possible to read as many as two words at one time. So keep practicing.
