Descrizione
English: Early-Medieval gilded silver ball-headed pin with filigree decoration, incomplete. Hollow spherical head with the upper and lower hemispheres each decorated with three pairs of spirals of beaded wire, with a pellet in the centre of each spiral, and a curved beaded wire line joining each pair of spirals. The shaft is separately made and circular in cross-section, with a double collar at the top. The shaft passes right through the head, and is visible at the top of the head. The shaft is broken diagonally after 9.5mm. Only the head is gilded, and most of the gilding has now worn off the top of the wires.

Diameter of head 9.1mm, overall length 17.8mm, diameter of collar 2.9mm, upper collar 2.4mm long; lower collar 1mm long, diameter of shaft 2.0mm, weight 2.62g.

Ball-headed pins are of middle Anglo-Saxon date and belong to the 8th and 9th centuries.
